Welcome to the Dunbar Law and Public Policy!
OUR MISSION:
Paul Laurence Dunbar Senior High School has a history of academic innovation and educational rigor that has groomed its students to be college graduates and career professionals who make meaningful change in our community. This can be seen in the litany of Dunbar graduates who have made an imprint on DC including the programs namesake, Eleanor Holmes-Norton. The Dunbar Law and Public Policy Academy continues this legacy by promoting community engagement, advocacy, problem solving, and communication skills through extensive coursework with the goal of producing self-aware, collaborative, ethical citizens who achieve success in law, criminal justice, law enforcement, public service and public policy related careers or college degree programs. |
The Dunbar Academy for Law and Public Policy is open to any Dunbar Senior High School student interested in studying law or public policy. In partnership with local law schools, businesses, law firms, public and private organizations, government agencies, and other entities, academy students receive a comprehensive program of specialized courses in law and policy and a variety of real world experiences ranging from mock trial preparation and presentation, internships, job shadowing, and college tours. Upon graduation, our scholars will be fully prepared for skilled entry-level jobs and/or entrance into post-secondary institutions. |
When One Rises, We All RISE!

In remembrance of our beloved son and student lawyer, Richard A. Bangura, will be honored as our peer court will be named after him.
Richard Bangura
July 2002 - August 2020
Richard was always ranked as a top student who loved to argue and debate.
Richard had the strength and fortitude of someone who is headstrong and goal oriented and he used his little brother and sister as motivation to keep "a 'pluggin away," like Paul Laurence Dunbar wrote.
Richard was a natural born leader who has spoken up about issues plaguing our community with Mikva Challenge DC, and even won numerous grants for our school for his activism.
Richard was a future lawyer who jumped at the chance to mentor younger classmates, canvass for a political candidate, or just help design our academy logo or swag as everything was a learning opportunity for him to help better his future.
Richard was a respectful and loving young man with an infectious positive attitude who always wanted to make his family, his school, and his community proud, always willing to lend a hand.
He was the epitome of the ideal Dunbar High School student. Our young Black King will be missed.
We love and miss you!
